Garden State Discovery Museum Hosts Free Outdoor Concert Series

CHERRY HILL, NJ. (CBS) -- The first of a series of free outdoor concerts began Wednesday night at the Garden State Discovery Museum.

Jordan Blau with the Garden State Discovery Museum says the Wednesday evening program, called "Groovin' and Grubbin," is an outdoor concert series geared towards families with children.

"It is a family event, an outside children's concert. There are food trucks, vendors. Camden County's actually on board this year, so we have a lot of great acts," he says. "We have a bounce house and face painting and then the performer goes on at 7 p.m."

There is also a kids karaoke activity prior to the concert, which takes place in the parking lot of the museum.

"It's called Open Mike with Little Tykes with Janet Sklaroff," Blau says, "and she does kind of like a little karaoke thing with kids."

All of the outdoor activities are free and admission to the museum is only $5 after 5 p.m.

"We wanted something that when the parents come home from work, that they could have dinner and a show, let their kids unwind for a bit," Blau says, "but really spend time together, away from the electronics and the TV and the tablets."

The series continues for nine consecutive weeks with a different performer highlighted each week.
