Officials: 2 Delaware Men Test Positive For Zika

DOVER, DE (CBS) – On Thursday, the Delaware Division of Public Health announced that the Zika virus has spread to two more people, bringing the state's total to seven.

This time the victims were men.

Officials say, two New Castle men tested positive for the Zika virus. Both men, who have not been identified, were tested in June following recent travel.

So far, a total of 120 individuals have been, or are in the process of being, tested in Delaware. Out of those individuals, officials say 95 were negative, seven were positive and two could not be confirmed.

According to the CDC, there are 820 confirmed cases of Zika virus in the Unites States and District of Columbia. As of June 22, the CDC reports there is still no confirmed transmission of Zika by local mosquito bite in the continental U.S.

Anyone with plans to travel this fourth of July to a country where the mosquito-born Zika virus is prevalent is urged to be extra vigilant about protecting themselves from mosquito bites.

To report a potential Zika illness or receive further guidance on patient testing, call the DPH Office of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at 302-744-4990.
