Local Congressman Participates In Democratic Sit-in For 'No Fly, No Buy' Legislation
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- U.S. Congressman Bob Brady is taking part in a Democratic sit-in on the floor of the House of Representatives.
The sit-in is an attempt to force the house leadership to allow a vote on a so-called "no fly, no buy" measure that would prevent terrorism suspects on the government's no fly list from buying a gun. Brady represents Pennsylvania's 1st district.
"All we want is a sensible bill. And we can't get a bill on the floor. Peter King, a Republican, has a bill with extensive background checks, but we can't even get that on the floor, so we're gonna sit on the floor until we get one," Brady said.
Why take the action now?
"I guess after 49 people got slaughtered, and many, many injured, we got tired of doing a moment of silence. Is that all we can give them, a moment of silence on the House floor? We can't do better than that? That's a disgrace."
