Chester County Announces First Confirmed Zika Case
WEST CHESTER, Pa (CBS) -- The Chester County Health Department has announced the county's first case of Zika Virus. The department was notified of the case by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Officials say a Chester County woman recently traveled to an area affected by mosquitoes that carried the virus. They add that the woman is not pregnant.
The woman was not hospitalized and has recovered, officials say. She has been advised on ways to prevent further mosquito bites.
According to health officials, 23 cases of Zika, connected to travel, have been confirmed in Pennsylvania, but there have been no cases of Zika Virus being acquired in the state.
"For anyone traveling to countries affected by the Zika Virus, we urge caution and note that pregnant women in particular should avoid travel to affected countries," said Chester County Health Department Director Jeanne Casner. She added that there is minimal risk of getting Zika Virus in Chester County.
