Officials Remove 33 Cats From Filthy Conditions In Frankford Residence
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania SPCA has announced that over 30 cats were taken from two separate apartments at a building in the city's Frankford section.
33 cats were removed in total. According to the PSPCA, 17 cats were removed from the first floor apartment and 16 were taken from the third floor.
Officials say the 33 cats were all alive and living in unsanitary conditions. The cats were removed on Thursday as the PSPCA responded to a tip on their cruelty hotline.
The home, on the 4400 block of Griscom Street, was searched and officials say the first floor was feces covered and soaked with urine. Two cats found at the property were dead.
When officials moved to the third floor of the home, eight adult cats, three kittens and five newborns were found. Those animals were willingly signed over to the PSPCA.
All of the animals were taken to the PSPCA's Erie Avenue headquarters where they are being examined and cared for. The cats will remain with the SPCA until they are ready to be adopted.
The owner of the home has not been identified and it is unclear whether or not charges will follow.
