Firefly 2016: Five Bands To Watch In The Woodlands

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pack up your tent and make sure your crop top is clean, Firefly Music Festival is almost here.

For the fifth year in a row, the masses will converge in The Woodlands of Dover International Speedway for four days of music, mud, and memories starting Thursday June 16th.

Announced in November, this year's headliners are Mumford & Sons, Deadmau5, Florence & The Machine, and Kings Of Leon. Beyond those big bold names though in the fields of the first state, there's plenty of great music that deserves a spot on your itinerary.

Here are five bands not to miss at Firefly Music Festival 2016:

Tame Impala – Friday 9:30pm at The Backyard Stage

Tame Impala and virtuoso frontman Kevin Parker are custom-built for a Firefly party, with their spacey pop that bounces between atmospheric guitars and psychedelic electronic R&B dance floor bangers. If you're still on your blanket when they hit the stage, you're doing it wrong.

St. Lucia – Saturday 11:45pm at The Backyard Stage

Earlier this year, we saw first-hand what kind of power the shimmering dance grooves of St. Lucia can deliver. Their indulgent synth sounds have one foot firmly planted in 80's excess while the other in pointed forward towards a much more dangerous direction.

The Struts – Sunday 4:00pm at The Lawn Stage

Speaking of throwbacks, there's a pomp and circumstance with The Struts that shouts towards classic arena rock. With hooks and swagger for days, these English rockers make for a perfect afternoon adrenaline shot.

Grouplove – Sunday 4:45pm at The Main Stage

Grouplove are Firefly veterans at this point, well-versed in high-octane sing-a-longs and all-around good vibes. The commune lifestyle that the band is born out of translates to a pure party on stage. As their font size continues to grow on the festival poster, justifiably so do their devotees.

Blink 182 – Sunday 6:45pm at The Main Stage

On July 1st the world will get to hear California, the latest album from the new-look Blink 182. Sunday night at Firefly though you could have a sneak preview as the band hits the Main Stage, now featuring Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba. Lead single "Bored To Death" shows that the pop punk pillar shows no signs of slowing, and their return is met with much anticipation.
