19 Local Immigrants Become American Citizens On Flag Day

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- Nineteen people from 10 countries celebrated Flag Day in Camden by becoming American citizens.

Eleven women and eight men held small American flags as they stood and recited the oath of allegiance. For cousins Santos Fortuna and Rafaela Fernandez the road to citizenship was a long one. They came from the Dominican Republic in the early 1990s, but both say it was worth the wait.

"I'm happy now. Yeah we both happy, cause I treasure America. Yeah..."

Camden County Freeholder Director Lou Capelli was among several dignitaries to congratulate the group and dispense some friendly advice.

"So I urge you to vote. Become familiar with candidates. Become familiar with our government. Please disregard the ignorant words of a certain candidate for President right now."

His name wasn't mentioned but these immigrants knew exactly who Cappelli was talking about.

About that unnamed presidential candidate -- lets just say these immigrants know who they will not be voting for come November.

"I'm not going to vote for Donald Trump. No. No. No."
