Chinese Lantern Festival Remained A Popular Spot Over Memorial Day Weekend

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Huge lines formed outside the Chinese Lantern Festival at Franklin Square Park on Saturday.

"Very packed, very packed," said Warren Marshall of Blackwood, as he waited in line with his family. "It looks nice though. I've been seeing it riding by, so hopefully the kids enjoy it."

People looked to kick off Memorial Day weekend with some outdoor activities in the city.

"We loved it," Amanda Goodall of Baltimore, who brought her two young daughters to the festival. "We actually saw a lantern festival when we were in China. It was very similar to this and so the girls loved it."

"I think it's beautiful," said Keko Herbert of Mount Laurel, NJ. "I think we came at the right time, it's gorgeous out. Just came from South Street, so it's a great day to be in Philly."

"It's been wonderful, finally after all of the rain," said Karen Bueckers of Fox Chase.

But the rain isn't staying away for long. With a wet forecast for Monday, many said they plan to stay home, but still have a cookout.

"On Monday, we're just going to do the burgers and the hot dogs and the potato salad," Herbert said.

"I don't care," Bueckers said. "Definitely going to be grilling, I'm going to be grilling something."
