PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Former Pennsylvania Senator and two time candidate for the Republican nomination for President, Rick Santorum, addressed his endorsement of Donald Trump, saying what finally tipped him into the New York billionaire’s camp was the list he released of his potential Supreme Court nominees.

Santorum, talking with Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, described the conversation he had with Donald Trump that led him to commit to an endorsement.

“When he called me, I said I’m concerned about your Supreme Court picks. He says, well, I’m working on a list. I said, Donald, I’ve heard you’ve been working on this list for two months and he said, yeah, I have been working on it for two months, I can’t find enough people to put on the list, I only have seven or eight right now and I want at least ten. He said, do you have any suggestions? I said, as a matter of fact, I’m sure I will. He said make suggestions and so, will you endorse me. I said, when I see the list and you say that list will be the list you pick from, I’ll be happy to endorse you.”

He believes the next President will hold enormous sway over the direction of the Court for the next generation.

“The most important issue for me in this race that I think this race is going to decide is what the Constitution is going to look like for the next 25 years. The United States Supreme Court, with Justice Scalia passing away, if Hillary Clinton is the nominee and is the President, she’s going to replace Justice Scalia with a progressive who sees the Constitution the way they want to see it, not what it says, but what they want it to say.”
