Wolf To Sign 9-1-1 Privacy Bill

HARRISBURG (CBS) -- A spokesman says Governor Wolf will sign a bill headed to his desk that is intended to protect the privacy of 9-1-1- callers.

The bill sent to the governor Tuesday provides that in response to a Right-To-Know request, release of the name, telephone number and home address of people who call 911 would be prohibited in most circumstances.

The exception would be in cases where the 911 call center or a court determines that release of the information is in the public interest.

The location of the incident would be public information if it does not compromise the identity of a caller, victim or witness.

The public would still be able to find out the street block identifier, cross street or mile marker nearest the incident.

Saying the bill mostly codifies in statute existing law set forth by courts, the governor's spokesman says he will sign it.
