76ers To Pick 1st, 24th And 26th In First-Round

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Finally, some good luck for the Philadelphia 76ers.

After acquiring the third overall pick in each of the two previous draft lotteries, the Sixers landed the highly coveted first overall pick in Tuesday night's NBA Draft Lottery. Furthermore, the Sixers own the first-round picks of the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder, giving them a total of three 2016 first-round picks: No. 1, No. 24, and No. 26.

Fans rejoiced after it was announced that the Sixers will have their choice between the top prospects in this year's draft.

Only in Philly.

LSU's Ben Simmons is the most likely candidate to be the first player selected in the NBA Draft, with Duke's Brandon Ingram a close second. Simmons was reportedly hoping the Los Angeles Lakers would acquire the first-overall pick.

Sixers head coach Brett Brown was on hand as the team's representative at the lottery. After winning the lottery, Brown said "my immediate thoughts go straight to the city of Philadelphia. They have been amazing."

Several Sixers past and present expressed their excitement over the team getting the first pick in the draft.

The 76ers will be under new management for this year's draft, as former general manager Sam Hinkie recently resigned and the team named Bryan Colangelo as the new president and GM. Jerry Colangelo, Bryan's father, was hired in December as the chairman and now currently serves as an advisor to the 76ers.

Oh, and by the way, Dikembe Mutombo was right.
