Streets Department Holds Waste Drop-Off Event In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Streets Department is hosting a hazardous household waste drop-off event in West Philly today with several more scheduled throughout the year.

From gasoline and glue to pesticide and pool chemicals, it's all being accepted at the facility on Parkside Avenue near 48th Street.

Henry from Fairmount was doing some spring cleaning.

"I just brought paint and maybe two spray bottles of something or other," he said. "It's fantastic. I looked, we had a basement full of stuff like this."

Oil, batteries and some other items will be recycled. Everything else is being taken by a contractor to be properly disposed.

Today's event is open until 3 p.m.  If you miss this event, you can get rid of your household hazardous materials at any of these future drop-off locations.
