PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Do you feel like you can't get through a single day without fighting with your spouse? Researchers point to a Ohio State study that indicates it could be taking a toll on your health. Couples who regularly fight have elevated levels of stress hormones.

Scientists say this is particularly important during times of illness and recovery from surgery. The Ohio State study is considered one of the most thorough on the topic. The researchers were able to select random couples with the average couple having been married 13 years during the research period. The researchers put the couples in rooms and brought up topics intended to cause discussion such as such as money or in-laws. Not surprisingly, these were specially selected to produce an argument. It was at that point that they monitored the hormone levels.

Most people understand that there can be a high level of stress during the workday, but this report also says people need to be concerned with stress at home as well.
