2015's List Of Top Baby Names Released

by Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Last year's top American baby names have been released by the Social Security Administration.

According to the recently released data, last year's top three nationwide baby names for boys were Noah, Liam, and Mason. The most popular baby girl names were Emma, Olivia, and Sophia.

"I wonder if some of those names get recycled -- like some of those may have been popular a long time ago and then when people hear them, or a movie comes up, or an actor or something like that, then all of a sudden it becomes in vogue again," wondered one parent.

One mom says there's a delicate balance that comes into play when choosing a baby name:

"I want her to not be one of five Emmas in a class and have something a little more unique, but still be able to pronounce it," she said.

Speaking of being different, data on the Social Security Administration website shows recent names on the list changed much more frequently than they did 100 years ago -- or even 30 years ago.

"I think that because of how maybe more interconnected we are, there's a greater need to differentiate yourself," explained another parent.
