Ed Rendell Addresses Guilty Plea From Former Aide
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell addressed the guilty plea of a former aid, John Estey, to wire fraud, insisting there is more to the story that will come out eventually.
Rendell, in an interview with Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, expressed skepticism at the details that have been revealed so far.
"I don't think we know the true story yet. One thing I can tell you from knowing John Estey, and he worked for me when I was Mayor as well as Governor, is he didn't try to steal $13,000 from a phony corporation. There's much more to it than that. I don't think the truth has come out."
He also praised Estey's work ethic and character based on their time serving both the city of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
"People wind up doing bad things for a lot of reasons. Sometimes, you and I don't know the reason at first why they did the bad thing. I don't think we know the true story. I know John Estey served well. He was honest as the day is long when he worked for me. He served well. He worked, often 18 hour days, and he didn't do it for the money because he could've made a lot more money, and did make a lot more money in private practice. It's a sad story."
