Area Doctors Indicted In Alleged Scheme To Sell Prescription Drugs

By Suzanne Monaghan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Three area doctors have been indicted in a scheme to sell prescription drugs for cash.

The indictment alleges Dr. Alan Summers of Ambler ran a medical clinic on South Broad Street in Philadelphia known as the National Association for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment. Dr. Azad Khan of Villanova and Dr. Keyhosrow Parsia of Ridley Park worked for Summers.

Authorities say the defendants sold Suboxone and Klonopin to patients and many of these "so-called" patients were drug dealers or addicts.

The indictment also says Summers gave false information to health insurance companies and sold over $5 million worth of drugs over the course of the scheme.

The three are charged with distributing controlled substances, health care fraud and money laundering.
