Pennsylvania, New Jersey Among Worst States For Aging Americans, Study Finds

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pennsylvania and New Jersey are two of the worst states for older Americans, according to a new study.

The study conducted by Caring.com used customer reviews of senior care facilities, AARP surveys and a host of other sources to rank the best and worst states for aging Americans.

"We took all this information and boiled down to two main things,"said Dayna Steele, with Caring.com, "the quality of senior services available and the cost of those services."

Steele says Pennsylvania and New Jersey ranked 42 and 48, respectively, out of all 50 states.

"New jersey had some really, really high costs for senior care," she said. "What really pulled down Pennsylvania was the quality of life and the quality of health care."

Steele says the study was conducted with the hopes that states that are lagging in areas of senior care would address what they need to do better.
