By Kim Glovas

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- Graduates and their families celebrated a milestone in Camden today.

It was the first ever group of students to receive their medical degrees from the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.

Forty-three students dressed in black gowns with green trim marched in formal procession from Cooper Medical School in Camden to the Green at Kipp-Cooper-Norcross Academy.

Among them was Gwen Caffrey, who says a medical education in this city was a valuable and varied experience.

"It really gave us a sense of perspective in terms of not just diverse medical conditions that we were able to see and experience with our patients. But also just everything that goes on in the background of their lives and really having an appreciation for how that can color what they experience just on a day to day basis."

Caffrey is heading to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. She'll be focusing on Internal Medicine but sees her future in Oncology.
