Bieber And Beyond: Five Shows To See This May In Philadelphia

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Maybe your May may be filled with Moms and Memorial Day, but in between there's room for music. Here's the best of what May has to offer your eyes and ears. You should "love yourself," and not miss out.

Tuesday May 3rd and Wednesday May 4th – The Used at Electric Factory

Fifteen years ago The Used busted out of Utah and on to the airwaves with their unmistakable brand of throat-gripping rock. To celebrate the band is playing their first two albums in full this month at Electric Factory – night one it's their pounding jittery self-titled debut, with night two reserved for their slicing sophomore effort In Love And Death. Time travel back a decade-plus with Bert McCraken and company, to a simpler time when you were raging with emotions and not just against car payments and student loan collectors.

Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th – Justin Bieber at Wells Fargo Center

A porpoise world tour is when a bunch of dolphins swim around the globe looking for friendship and fun. A Purpose World Tour is when Justin Bieber stops in your city with an arsenal of dance moves and an acoustic guitar. We'll receive a double dose of the latter this month as the Beliebers assemble at Wells Fargo Center. The twenty-two year old singer has a fresh haircut and is primed to hit fans with hits off his latest Purpose. You know, all of those songs that you pretend not to like but secretly sing when nobody's watching. This will be the Biebs first stop back at the Center since his stop in 2013.

Friday May 20th – Zac Brown Band at BB&T Pavilion

Dierks Bentley opens the season at BB&T Pavilion on May 14th, but really the big country kickoff in Camden comes May 20th with Zac Brown Band. Fold down the tailgate and find the "pair of jeans that fit just right" for this Friday night party with a transcending star.

Thursday May 26th – Courtney Barnett at Electric Factory

Not many have collected as much praise as Courtney Barnett over the past couple of years. Her dead-pan observations somehow play nicely with her shredding fretwork, and it has been enough to earn her a Best New Artist Grammy nomination. Hear this Australian wonder and all her jangly glory this month at Electric Factory.

Thursday May 26th – Kiefer Sutherland at Sellersville Theater

Somewhere between turns taking down terrorists as Jack Bauer, Kiefer Sutherland found time to kick it the cowboy way. Nope, not a sequel to the 1994 buddy comedy with Woody Harrelson – but a debut country album that drops in June. It will be all whiskey and woe for Sutherland on this night at the Sellersville Theater, as he goes the way of Jeff Bridges and Billy Bob Thorton before him. Seriously though, do you remember The Cowboy Way? Criminally underrated.
