Join The 'Great Chefs' Fundraiser In Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Over 40 chefs will be participating in this year's 12th annual "Great Chefs" event on June 20th at the Navy Yard.

Marc Vetri, who helps organize it, says it started as a fundraiser to raise awareness about pediatric cancer through the Alex's Lemonade Stand foundation:

"We started off having this event for them and then obviously we started our own foundation to help healthy school lunches and all that."

Since the establishment of the Vetri Foundation, he says a large chunk of the proceeds also goes to help bring healthy school lunches and food education to Philadelphia district public schools:

"They've really sliced a lot of things out of the school curriculum and that's the issue! Number one, they live in these areas where there's not the option to buy healthy food and then once they actually have the option to buy the healthy food, they don't know what to do with it!"

The goal, Vetri says, is to raise one million dollars this year:

"We just want to preach about healthy eating, healthy school lunches, knowing where your food arrives from."
