Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney was among those on hand for the celebration of everything new at the park, from more live music to an earlier start date.
Now entering its third year, Delaware River Waterfront Corporation Chairman Jay Goldstein is excited about the many additions:
“The public is going to have greater access to the park for the summer, expanded facilities, probably the most important is you can now reserve a hammock in advance, online, so anytime you’d like to be able to do that it’s a wonderful opportunity.”
And let’s forget about all the new food vendors, who were offering samples at Thursday’s event.
Among them, Kevin Sbraga’s “Little Fat Ham.”READ MORE: Brandywine Valley SPCA, Other Shelters Holding Mega Adoption Event This Weekend
“We’re doing hot fish, little bit of ranch dressing, dill, pickles, onion,” he says, “and then a pulled pork with barbecue sauce and coleslaw. We’re going to do roasted corn on the cob with a little bit of cheese and chili powder, then we’re also doing a fried pork skin that we don’t offer at the other Fat Ham (in University City).”
There will also be Chickie’s & Pete’s Waterfront Crab Shack.
“You’ll be able to get a crab fest,” says CEO Peter Ciarrocchi, “which will consist of corn on the cob, crab, mussels, clams, down and dirty style on the table. You’ll be able to crack crabs, look at the river and think you’re away somewhere.”
If that didn’t make you hungry enough, there will also be Franklin Fountain’s Sugar Shack, a Federal Donuts and tacos from Jose Garces, and more.
Goldstein says between all the new additions and returning favorites, there is something for everyone:
“You see young, you see families, you see people just enjoying it from all walks of life. It’s a great meeting place and a new opportunity for people to enjoy the wonderful waterfront.”MORE NEWS: Hundreds Rally For Abortion Rights In Philadelphia With Democratic Gov.
