PHILADELPHIA (CBS)-- There are numerous mental health issues that we deal with in medicine but two of the most common are from anxiety and depression.

Each has its own specific set of symptoms. But some common feelings and behaviors precede many mental health problems. There are some warning signs that you should know about that can serve as red flags to help. Look out for changes in eating or sleeping habits.

Another key area is a lack of energy. People who are depressed or have other psychological issues tend to have severe mood swings. One of the biggest warning signs is a drop in grades. For adults a person may avoid friends or usual activities.

If you notice that you are not feeling the same way you have in the past but can't put a finger on it, don't hesitate to reach out and ask for help.
