2 Fatal Shootings In Same Philadelphia Neighborhood Could Be Linked, Police Say

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There are beefed up police patrols in the Cedarbrook section of the city as authorities look for shooters who killed two people in the neighborhood yesterday.

One victim was shot moments after meeting with a local political candidate.

Investigators believe the two shootings are linked.

A man got out of an SUV and fired shots on Temple Road around 7:30 at night according to police. A bullet sent 18-year-old Elijah Fraizer to the hospital where he died. A 17-year-old boy ended up with a graze wound.

"We believe this is retaliation for some reason or another and that's the approach we're taking."

Possible payback for a shooting on nearby Vernon Road hours earlier, says Police Commissioner Richard Ross.

There, police say 21-year-old Alex Cherry was shot in the head not long after speaking with state rep candidate Chris Rabb. Police say Cherry was shot while talking to a campaign aide.

But Ross says the violence had nothing to do with politics.

"It's just about an individual, for whatever reason, wanted this person harmed and he did that. And he did that in the most malicious and violent way you can imagine."

No one with the Rabb campaign was injured.
