You Can Help Name Two Newborn Porcupines At Elmwood Park Zoo

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) – Elmwood Park Zoo is holding a contest to choose the names of two newborn porcupines (porcupettes.)

The Zoo says the porcupettes were born to Ivanna and Lola. Ivanna's porcupette was born Wednesday, April 6 and Lola's was born Sunday, April 10.

Ivanna and Lola both gave birth to males, officials say.

The Zoo's only adult male North American porcupine, Spork, is the father of both.

Both babies weighed just over one pound and are growing daily, the Zoo says.

At birth, a porcupine's quills are soft but begin to harden and grow as the baby matures.

This is the third baby for Ivanna and Spork. Their first, Guinness, was born in 2014. Their second, Khaleesi was born in 2015.

This is Lola's first porcupette at Elmwood Park Zoo.

For the naming contest, guests can leave suggestions on Facebook or email their ideas to contest@elmwoodparkzoo.com.

Zoo staff will choose the winning names, and entries must be received by Friday, April 22.
