Local Documentary Spreads Word Prescription Drug Abuse Dangers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A small group of educators and community leaders screened a new documentary about prescription drug abuse.

It's called "Chasing The Dragon."

Patrick Trainor, special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Philadelphia says the stigma of drug addiction is changing in America:

"We can't in law enforcement arrest our way out of this problem anymore. It simply doesn't work and too many people are dying here."

He says every generation has their drug of choice and today, prescription pills are being prescribed and consumed more than ever:

"We've seen it affect everybody. It's affecting people in the suburbs and it's certainly affecting people in the inner city as well."

(Reporter) "By suburbs, do you mean white? Those have been code words.

"They might in fact be code words indeed," says Trainor, "but we're seeing the amount of people drop dead is just beyond anything that we in law enforcement can manage or comprehend."

Trainor says the documentary will be used as an educational tool at area high schools.
