Help Needed For Planned Chesco Library Move

CHESTER SPRINGS, PA (CBS) - A suburban library branch could use a little help in moving to their new home next weekend.

The Chester Springs Library of the Chester County Library System is currently housed in part of a small building in Historic Yellow Springs.

Board chairman Christopher Mazza believed an upgrade was in order.

"We didn't have the curbside appeal. We didn't have the exposure that we thought could really benefit us," Mazza told KYW Newsradio." There was a vacant building that was also part of the village two doors down."

The library will move into the old Yeaworth House next Saturday.

Somebody's got to get the books down there, and that's where the public comes in. They need 50 to 100 volunteers to do the not-so-heavy lifting.

As for the cost, estimated at between $150,000 and $200,000, Mazza says that's been taken care of.

Given recent history, he says, that's saying something:

"Financially a couple years ago, we were questioning if we had the resources to even keep the doors open. And now to be opening a brand new building without using taxpayers money, using solely donor's money and money we fundraised on our own, it's pretty remarkable."

If you want to assist with the move on April 16th, you should contact the library during weekday business hours at 610-827-9212 to sign up.

But if you just show up to help, Mazza says they'll be able to put you to work that day.
