Pumpkins To Pearl Jam: Five Shows To See This April In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With Rihanna in the rearview mirror , you might think that you missed your chance to wild out for April. You've never been more wrong. Well, maybe that one time that you had Villanova losing in the Elite Eight – but this is a close second.
From legendary Seattle sounds to Philly bred psychedelic pop, we're only a couple days deep into a big month of music. Here's five shows still to come this month that you don't want to miss.
Friday April 8th – The Smashing Pumpkins at Tower Theater
Billy Corgan and his current incarnation of The Smashing Pumpkins are out this month on the "In Plainsong" tour. The show dubbed an "acoustic-electric evening", has the band giving new spins to classics like "Tonight, Tonight", digging deep into the Corgan catalog with album tracks and even some Zwan material, and a few covers ranging from Bowie to Hole.
Saturday April 16th – Dr. Dog at The Fillmore
This almost never happens. All your friends tell you how you missed a killer set from Dr. Dog, and you're left bummed. Surely it will be months before the West Grove groove is back in Philadelphia, and you'll be left to listen to "Lonesome" alone as you're fuming with FOMO. But wait! They're back? Already? Yes Timmy, wishes do come true. The Psychedelic Swamp singers return to the same spot at The Fillmore where they had an epic performance in March. Don't make the same mistake twice.
Saturday April 23rd – Father John Misty at The Fillmore
Father John Misty is one of the finest performers in all of music. He might just tell you so, while alternating dead pan eyes and a wink. Nobody blurs the lines or humor and sincerity quite as well as Misty, and at the intersection of both lies one of 2015's finest albums – I Love You Honeybear. This velvet-voiced crooner is impossible to resist and one of the best times you can have while listening to music.
Monday April 25th – Tori Kelly at Electric Factory
From YouTube to the Grammy stage, Tori Kelly has had an amazing journey. It takes a dynamic voice and some infectious hooks to make a leap like that – both of which Kelly has stocked. Nearly ten years since her first upload, Kelly has proven to be one of pop's biggest voices. The "Nobody Love" singer is likely a single away from being arena-sized, so see her in the intimacy of Electric Factory while you can.
Friday April 28th and Friday April 29th – Pearl Jam at Wells Fargo Center
In March of 1991, Pearl Jam changed music with the release of Ten. That first note of "Evenflow" still shoots through the soul twenty-five years later, and Pearl Jam remains one of the best live shows in the history of rock. Is it the setlist that you unwrap song by song like Christmas morning? Is it the everyman charm of Eddie Vedder who leaves it all on stage?
