Women Against Abuse Celebrates 40 Years With 'Dish It Up' Event

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Women Against Abuse is celebrating 40 years of fighting domestic violence in Philadelphia. And the agency is holding an anniversary party on Thursday with help from the city's best female chefs.

The Celebration is called Dish It Up. It takes place World Cafe Live on Walnut Street. Katie Young-Wildes, with Women Against Abuse, says 500 foodies and other interested guests will get to taste some amazing food.

"We have 11 female chefs who are competing for the Purple Dish Award," she says, "and what that means is they are creating tastings of a dish, and they have to incorporate an element of purple. Purple is the color of the anti-domestic violence movement."

She also says Maria Pajil Battle, formerly of AmeriHealth Caritas Partnership, will be honored as Woman of the Year.

"It was through her leadership that we were able to install a playground at our transitional housing program so that children have a safe place to play and heal," Young-Wildes says.

Women Against Abuse hopes to raise over $100,000 through the event.
