By Jim Melwert

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) -- A 32-year-old woman wiped away tears as she appeared before a district judge Friday afternoon, charged with the kidnapping of a seven-week-old baby boy from the King of Prussia Mall yesterday evening.

After several tips led investigators to the Tredyffrin Township home of 32-year-old Cherie Amoore, police say she answered the door and said "I took the baby and I am sorry."

Upper Merion Township police chief Thomas Nolan says Amoore told police she did not go to the mall planning to steal a baby.

"She also told investigators she gave birth to a baby boy on February 11th, which died a few hours later. We have not been able to confirm any of that story."

Chief Nolan says they will check medical records as part of the investigation.

According to the criminal complaint, Amoore told detectives as she held the baby, "All those feelings rushed back."

Amoore was arraigned in front of District Judge William Marusczak. She was unable to post $500,00 cash bail and was taken to Montgomery County prison.

Cherie Amoore is the daughter of noted state Republican party member Renee Amoore.
