Positively Philadelphia: Visiting Historic Mansions In The Area

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - On April 16th and 17th, historic mansions in Fairmount Park will fling open their doors and show off.

"Rooms in Bloom is something we brought back from about 15 years ago working with garden clubs and florists from throughout the region to bring beautiful flowers in the park houses and celebrate spring and the house's history," says Darren Fava.

Fava is house operations manager for the Department of Parks and Recreation.

"This year it's being held at Lemon Hill, Cedar Grove, Ormiston Mansion, Laurel Hill, Strawberry Mansion, and Woodford," he says.

"We'd love to see everyone come out," adds Lucy Strackhouse of the Fairmount Park Conservancy. "All the gardeners that are out there waiting to start gardening this spring, visit our historic houses and get a lot of inspiration from the beautiful arrangements that are going to be in every house."

Fava says there will be different presentations at some of the houses:

"About gardening, fighting invasives in your garden, deer-resistant gardening, container gardening, so there will be information that you can get as well as looking at the flowers."

Sunday, April 17th there will be Trolley Tours at 10am and 1:30pm departing from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Each tour lasts two hours and visits three houses. Make a day of it and visit all six!

Ticket price for the Trolley and admission for three houses is $38 or $30 for PMA members. For more prices and information CLICK HERE.
