Philly Christian Group Uses Easter As Chance To Feed Less Fortunate

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As many Christians around the Delaware Valley sit down to a festive Easter dinner, one local group is making sure there is a place at the holiday table for some of those in need.

Reverend Brian Jenkins with Chosen 300 Ministries says it's their mission to serve the homeless and less fortunate through out the year, but on Easter Sunday they try even harder to follow Christ's mission.

"He came to preach the gospel to the poor, and often times those are the ones that are pushed aside, not welcome, and especially on a Sunday like this when everybody comes in their Sunday best, this is a place where they can come just as they are," he said.

Reverend Jenkins says during their Easter celebration they provide more than 200 people with a dinner made up of chicken, rice, string beans, corn, and more.

"As we serve them, we are doing it as a reflection of: that is Christ himself that we are serving," said Reverend Jenkins.

As part of their Easter celebration, church officials also baptized and washed the feet of different attendees.

Church officials say they serve over 100,000 meals a year to the homeless and those in need.
