Scholarships Offered For Citizens Planning Institute
By Pat Loeb
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia City Councilman Bobby Henon wants his constituents to learn more about zoning and development, and is offering scholarships to the Citizens Planning Institute.
Philadelphia's zoning process encourages citizen participation, but its zoning code can be mysterious with its RSD-1's and CMX-3's.
That's why the Citizens Planning Institute was born.
More than 300 people have gone through the seven-week course, and councilman Bobby Henon wants to encourage more participation.
"I use the community to be my kitchen table and I take what they say seriously," Henon says, "and I think providing a scholarship opportunity is a way to empower the community to be a little more involved in their neighborhood."
Classes are Wednesday evening from six to nine; dinner's included.
The scholarships, worth a hundred dollars, cover the core courses and two electives.
The application is online at bobbyhenon.com, and the deadline to apply is this Wednesday.
