1210 WPHT's Sid Mark Shares Cherished Memories Of Frank Sinatra Jr.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Sid Mark of 1210 WPHT first met Frank Sinatra Jr when Frank was 19-years-old, from that moment forward, Mark became personal and close friends with the Sinatra's.

Last week Sinatra Jr died suddenly from a cardiac arrest while on tour in Daytona Beach, Florida. Mark says that even though the two share a name, Frank Sinatra Jr. was very much an individual, separate from his father.

"They are together again, the son and the father. How devastating to lose them both," Mark's said. "The father's aura blindingly bright; the son, inevitably in his shadow, how could it not be so? But frank Sinatra Jr was uniquely his own man."

Frank Jr made himself available to Sid anytime he was within a 100 miles of Philadelphia. When Sid celebrated his 50th anniversary, Frank junior celebrated with a sold out concert at Harrah's Casino in Atlantic City. The singer performed 'Sinatra sings Sinatra' with a 40 member orchestra.

Sid said their friendship always stayed strong despite the distance because of his loyalty.

"I will remember him as a fiercely loyal friend who was always available and only a phone call away," he said. "He was the true guardian of the great American songbook. He honored his father's memory by cherishing the music and the people who performed it."
