Report: Sam Bradford Far From Lock To Be Eagles Starting QB

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- We thought Sam Bradford was going to be the guy. After all, the new two-year-$35 million contract given to the 28-year-old quarterback seemed to indicate as such.

Not so fast.

According to report from Albert Breer, Bradford will not be given the starting QB job. He'll have to earn it.

On Wednesday -- the first official day of the 2016 NFL season -- the Eagles signed former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chase Daniel to a three-year deal worth at least $21 million, with $12 million guaranteed. That's an extremely lucrative deal for a backup quarterback.

For context, the Eagles previously gave backup Mark Sanchez -- who is expected to be released or traded -- a total of $5.5 million guaranteed for two years.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported that the Eagles do not owe Bradford any money until March 18th and entertaining the possibility of a trade. ESPN's Phil Sheridan speculated the Denver Broncos acquiring Bradford.

The Eagles also moved up to pick No. 8 in the first-round of this year's NFL draft, thanks to a trade with the Miami Dolphins, adding even more intrigue to the team's developing quarterback situation.
