Bucks County Company's Ad Campaign Is Alarming Residents
By Jim Melwert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A marketing campaign by a Bucks County company that makes home-water-conditioning systems has some residents wondering if the company is crossing a line, trying to take advantage of people by cashing in on fears following recent headlines of lead in the water Flint, Michigan.
The plastic bags are hung on doorknobs, a small plastic vial, with a yellow questionnaire that says, "We are conducting a water test for the residents in your district, township, or municipal water authority."
The survey identifies the company, Professional Water Services, in bold letters across the top, and in small print on the bottom, it says "Not affiliated with City Water or county health department."
Bucks County Office of Consumer Protection director Michael Bannon says, "We're getting a lot of calls about it because people are confused. We like advertisements to be clear so there's a little bit of that going on, however, what they're doing is legal."
He says always read the fine print, and anyone with concerns about water quality should call their municipality or water provider.
Professional Water Services is in good standing with the Better Business Bureau and gets good reviews online.
