PAL Provides Young People With The Perfect Dress For Prom

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Ruffles, sparkles and beads...it's prom season! Some lucky young members of the city's Police Athletic League got a chance to shop for free on Thursday night to find the perfect dress in Fairmount.

Inside the Cozen PAL center, girls scanned the racks of dresses, looking for the perfect one.

"At first I didn't think it was going to look good, but then I tried it on and it looked really good on me, so I decided to get it," Leanne said.

She is one of 200 young ladies who picked out her free gown and says she's thankful for the chance.

"There are a lot of dresses out there that cost so much and then you get this and it's so much better and there's so many option to pick out of," she said.

Nancy Rounbehler is a lead volunteer and helped transform the center into the Prom Boutique.

"It's a very exciting night for these kids because it's very expensive and they would not have the opportunity," Rounbehler said.

She says they are in their sixth year of collecting dresses and hope to gather even more for next year.

"It's grown because people see the need and the interest and how exciting it is," she said.
