Suspect Accused Of Stealing Lollipops, Cash In Daycare Robberies Just Minutes Apart

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police are searching for the suspect accused taking lollipops and cash from daycares in the Olney section of the city.

Authorities say on February 25 between 11 p.m. and 11:30 pm, a male gained entry to Around the Clock Daycare on the 400 block of West Tabor Road by removing an air conditioner from a window. He then slid through the window and into the building.

Once inside, police say he ransacked the business.

"Everything had been thrown on the floor. All the files were pulled out," says Hasanah Allen.

But all he took from the daycare was some sweets.

"When the children leave, if they had a good day, we give them lollipops. All of the lollipops are gone. He stole the children's lollipops."

Just fifteen minutes later two blocks away, police say that same man robbed a second daycare.

The suspect entered the Little Explorers Daycare on the 5400 block of North 5th Street by using a ladder in an alleyway and forcing open a second floor window.

Northwest Detectives Captain Malachi Jones says the suspect was able to get away with some cash after prying open the register, but he left behind some prints.

"We believe they are targeting daycares to get baby formula and diapers to sell at neighborhood stores for quick, easy money."

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 30 to 40 years old, with a thin mustache. He was wearing a puffy hooded jacket, knit ski cap and black boots.

Anyone with information on the suspect or incident is asked to contact police.
