Temple Basketball Player Trey Lowe's Season Over Following Car Accident

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The season is likely over for Temple basketball freshman Trey Lowe. The school announced that news after Lowe was injured in a one-car accident early on Sunday morning.

The school announced that Lowe is receiving treatment for what they are calling "upper body injuries," at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J. Lowe hails from Ewing, N.J.

Lowe has played in all 28 games of his freshman season and is averaging 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in just over 12 minutes per game. Although the numbers are not incredibly high, Lowe has shown quite a bit of promise in his first season.

Against Villanova, who was ranked No. 1 in the country at the time, Lowe shined scoring 21 points on 7-12 shooting, including 5-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Temple head coach Fran Dunphy has a history of not playing freshmen for significant minutes or in a significant role.

Lowe's impact has been felt in his first season and he certainly shows an ability to continue to grow and become a leader on the Owls.

"I visited Trey and his family on both Sunday and Monday at the hospital," said Dunphy via the team's website. "Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time and we are hopeful that he will make a full recovery."
