PSPCA Seizes Dozens Of Birds In Suspected Cockfighting Ring

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania SPCA announced that 36 birds were seized from a Philadelphia property in connection with a suspected cockfighting ring in Hunting Park. The PSPCA executed a search warrant on Tuesday at a home on the 2800 block of North Lee Street.

According to officials, 36 birds were found at the property along with fighting paraphernalia.

PSPCA officials say that their officers were in the neighborhood looking into an unrelated case when they spotted birds dressed for fighting in the yard of the property.

At this time, charges are pending.

Officials say the birds seized included roosters for fighting and hens. The birds were taken to the PSPCA's Erie Avenue headquarters.

Anyone with information about this case, or other cases involving animal cruelty, are asked to call the Pennsylvania SPCA's Cruelty Hotline at 866-601-SPCA.
