NJ Residents Can Become Citizen Scientists Through New Program At Aquarium

CAMDEN, N.J., (CBS) -- Camden's Adventure Aquarium introduced a new program this week for nature lovers.
New Jersey residents can become citizen scientists through the Frog Watch training program.
"We have people come in for a class. We train them about what is a frog, why they are important, and more specifically, we teach them all the calls for the 16 different frogs that live in New Jersey," said Jack Carr, the Director of Education at the Aquarium.
Those who participate are asked to go out and sit by a pond or marsh for about three minutes every few nights, and listen to the croaks -- then jump onto the computer and log which sounds you heard.
"It's been really cool, they have come up with some really cool science based on that. Animals that have gone into different ranges that the scientists didn't realize based on what the citizens came up with," said Carr.
All participants must be 13 years or older.
The public is invited to free FrogWatch training sessions on Wednesday, March 2nd from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 5th from 10:00 a.m. - noon.
