New Study Relies On Memory For Proper Dieting

KYW Medical Reports Sponsored By Independence Blue Cross

By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It is a major problem when studies are being done about diet and nutrition. No matter what steps are taken, the reliance on memory is crucial in determining what, and how much, food or drink subjects have consumed.

Now, a medical group at the University of Massachusetts is looking at ways to deal with this. The plan is to use google glass, a head-mounted display that can take pictures, videos, and do many of the things that smartphones can, to record what participants eat and then upload the data to the digital cloud, where researchers can then access it.

The most exciting aspect of this study is the fact that we will now have a good chance to compare memory versus real time measurement. Going forward, this will be very helpful on studies related to diet.
