Small Dogs And Cats May Be Able To Travel With Owners On Amtrak

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Amtrak is expanding their pet program. Small dogs and cats may be allowed on trains with you if they meet the guidelines.

For a $25 fee, and if your dog or cat is the right size, you would be able to reserve a spot for Spot or Frisky on most Amtrak trains.

"The maximum weight of the pet with a carrier, the pets need to be in carriers, and with the carrier the pet can weigh up to 20 pounds. The carrier needs to be of a size that can fit under the owner's feet," said Amtrak spokesman Craig Shulz.

Pets will be limited to Acela express trains and only on weekends.
