Head On Collision Kills Man During Morning Rush Hour

By Diana Rocco

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A sheet covers the driver side of a green 4-door sedan. The mangled car is hard to recognize.

The driver was killed instantly after police say he crossed the yellow line heading north on the inner lanes of MLK drive just after 8 Thursday morning.

It happened on the curve across from Boathouse Row. Police say the driver, a man in his 20's or 30's, hit a blue Chevy head on.

There was a 32-year-old woman driving and a four-year-old passenger in the backseat.

Both were taken to the hospital.

This is the second deadly crash in the curvy stretch of MLK Drive in the last year and a half.

In October of 2014, the passenger in a RAV4 was killed when another car traveling towards Center City crossed the yellow line under the MLK overpass near Sweet Briar Drive, injuring two others.

MLK reopened Thursday just before 11, but caused massive traffic back ups while police investigated.
