Chinese New Year Celebrated Early At Penn Museum

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Penn Museum hosted its 35th annual Chinese New Year celebration this weekend.

"Through Martial Arts performances, music performances, dancing," explains Tina Thompson with the Museum.

She says the activities took place Saturday ahead of the actual Chinese New Year, which falls on February 8th:

"They celebrate it through the lunar calendar, so every year it's different."

Other activities included Chinese games, as well as crafts for the kids.

"You could get your name written in Chinese, or build your own little monkey," this little one tells KYW Newsradio.

Coming up is indeed the Year of the Monkey.
