African American Children's Book Fair Gears Up For 24th Anniversary Event
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The African American Children's Book Fair is gearing up for its 24th year.
The event will feature a wide selection of books featuring people of color.
"I don't ever recall reading a book with an African American image," said Vanesse Lloyd-Sgambati, founder of the African American Children's Book Project.
Lloyd-Sgambati says thousands will attend the fair that attracts authors and illustrators from around the country with reading circles, workshops and more.
"This the cream of the crop and I like to say the best and the brightest from the children's literary community."
She says their mantra is Give a Book, Preserve a Legacy with a goal of getting more books into homes with a diverse spectrum of stories that include African Americans and other cultures.
"We should share the stories of Hispanic children, Asian children, we need to know our stories, everyone needs to know and share."
The book fair takes place February 6th at Community College of Philadelphia.
