Storm Knocks Out Saturday's Flyers Game Against Islanders

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) — The NHL has postponed Saturday's game between the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers in Brooklyn because of the massive snowstorm hitting the East Coast.

The league did not announce a makeup date.

The NHL also postponed Sunday's game between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins. Washington's game on Friday against Anaheim had been moved up two hours before the league postponed it that day. Makeup dates have not been set for either of those games.

The winter storm also forced the NBA to move Saturday night's Philadelphia 76ers game with the Boston Celtics at the Wells Fargo Center to 7pm Sunday.

Three local college basketball games were also postponed because of the weather. Villanova vs. Providence, Temple vs. SMU, and La Salle vs. Saint Joe's were all rescheduled for Sunday.

The worst of the blizzard was yet to come. According to the National Weather Service, strong winds and heavy snow were expected to produce "life-threatening blizzard conditions" throughout Saturday.
