Philadelphia Officials Say Wind Is Big Concern With This Storm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  The snow is coming down hard and fast across the region tonight, including right here in Center City.

About an hour ago, state of emergency kicked into effect here in Philadelphia.

Officials want people off the roads and now. Just minutes after the flakes started falling, crews at the city salt yard were ready to go.

Many have been preparing for weeks and plan to spread most of the salt on city roads through the weekend, all day and all night.

And while authorities say there will be plenty of plows on the road, they say the big concern is the wind.

Earlier in the day, Jim Kenney made a blunt plea to the public about his first snow storm at the helm in the mayor's office.

"I suggest Netflix, pay per-view and make sure you're stocked up. Don't go out until it's really safe to go out. we'll give you the all clear," he said.
