Montco Woman Facing Involuntary Manslaughter After Police Say 2-Year-Old Ingested Prescription Drugs

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A 35-year-old Montgomery County woman is facing multiple felony charges, including involuntary manslaughter on allegations she failed to seek help for her daughter, after the two-year-old took dangerous prescription medication.

Thirty-five-year-old Christina Griffith from Lower Providence Township was in a hotel room at the Motel 6 in King of Prussia in July.

Investigators say she'd just shared a new prescription with friends, for addiction-treatment drug Subutex and anti-anxiety Klonopin. Some of the pills had fallen on the floor, and investigators say Griffith told them she saw her two-year-old daughter, Trinity, ingest medication, but instead of getting help, she laid down on the bed to keep an eye on the girl, but fell asleep after about 45 minutes.

The girl died.

Montgomery County DA Kevin Steele says, "She saw the child take a pill and did nothing in terms of seeking medical treatment for that child. Had she contacted or gotten medical help, the doctors believe that the child would have survived."

According to the criminal complaint, a toxicology report lists cause of death as "combined drug intoxication," and both drugs were present in the two-year-old's system.
