New Music Friday: Panic! At The Disco, Brothers Osborne, And Daughter

By Michael Cerio

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Chances are you were not paying attention to new music at all this week.

In a seven day span the world collectively went from celebrating the birthday and latest release from David Bowie, to honoring his life and impact. After Bowie's passing on Sunday, he's since set a record for views on YouTube, been Spotify's most streamed artist, and is likely to land his first number one album with last week's Blackstar. Even Blackstar itself has taken on new meaning – transforming from Bowie's latest art project to something much more meaningful and important.

The tributes and memories will continue to pour in over the coming months for the Starman that has returned to the sky, but in the meantime it is New Music Friday. Here are a few highlights from this week's slate of new releases.

Panic! At The Disco – Death Of A Bachelor

In the era when Fall Out Boy ruled MTV and pop punk was the youth's neon rebellion, Panic! At The Disco served as understudy and made waves with their debut A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. Their follow-up Pretty Odd rang a little too Beatle-esque for the scene though, and the Vegas band never quite fulfilled their promise. All that's left of Panic! now is lead singer and guitarist Brendon Urie, who has forged ahead hoping for a similar second coming to what Fall Out Boy has enjoyed the past few years. On Death Of A Bachelor, Urie employs similar tactics and sounds that guided that band back to marquees. It remains to be seen if it works as well for this one man mission.

Brothers Osborne – Pawn Shop

Brothers Osborne are in Philadelphia tonight at The TLA, opening a sold out show for Jon Pardi. The Nashville country-fried rockers release their debut Pawn Shop today and are a great reason to get their early. Pawn Shop displays a classic country honky tonk vibe built more for George Jones fans than parking lot cornhole lovers. Lee Ann Womack stops by for some sawdust covered romance on "Loving Me Back".

Daughter – Not To Disappear

Elena Tonra and her band Daughter are back with a second album of mood music - atmospheric, electronic folk, drowning in emotion, mood music. The venerable voice of Tonra is haunting and beautiful on this set from the English band. Stick around for the second act of Not To Disappear when the tempo uncharacteristically increases and soars.

Also out this week is a relaxing stroll through The Beatles catalog from classical guitarist Milos Karadaglic called Blackbird – The Beatles Album, featuring a guest appearance from Tori Amos.  Plus, if your gospel music isn't dope enough, check out Church Clothes 3 from Christian rapper Lecrae.
