PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — New Jersey native Carli Lloyd was named FIFA Women’s World Player Of The Year on Monday afternoon. Lloyd, 33, becomes the third American to win the award along with Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach.
Lloyd, who is born and raised in Delran Township, NJ, received about three times as many votes as the next closest player, Celia Sasic of Germany.
Lloyd and Sasic both scored six goals during the 2015 FIFA World Cup, tied as the top scorers. The U.S. won their first World Cup since 1999 and third ever behind Lloyd, who won the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.
